THE ROLE OF DISTRIBUTED ENERGY RESOURCES IN NEW JERSEY’S CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITION

Led by Governor Phil Murphy, New Jersey will finalize its 2019 Energy Master Plan, which aims to achieve 100% clean energy by 2050. This plan will set up a strategic vision for the future of energy in New Jersey. The Role of Distributed Energy Resources in New Jersey’s Clean Energy Transition, created by Gridworks, Gridlab, and the Center for Renewables Integration, supports New Jersey in the transition outlined in the Energy Master Plan.

This paper concludes that Distributed Energy Resources (DER) must play a key role in realizing the goals set forth in the Energy Master Plan and recommends a set of key considerations to empower the deployment of DER including: the integration of DER, the embrace of building and transportation electrification, ensuring equity is a core consideration in planning and deployment, and holistic grid planning.
